as I hear now in the fire
in my head
out there.
at night, in the cold. as some
people hear other places, summer.
I can hear
the deepest part of their song.
not the crescendo cranking up
attack but the heart of
the song when all the world
vibrates with cicada wings.
I turn up the fire.
