WordSpace is a non-profit North Texas literary organization dedicated to supporting indigenous literature and connecting the best of world literature to local readers. Throughout the year WordSpace presents author readings, workshops, concerts, salons and the annual Texas UnBound summer festival. Its mission is to promote the use of imaginative language and its creators working in traditional and experimental forms.

2007 PEN/Hemingway Award    (07/09/07)
Brief Encounters with Che Guevara has received the 2007 PEN/Hemingway Award for best first book of fiction by an American author. Congratulations to WordSpace President Ben Fountain for this outstanding award.

As our Spring 2007 schedule concludes, a hearty thanks to all our supporters who turned out and our members and contributors that continue to make WordSpace something wonderful. As we prepare to update our calendar page for Fall, please turn your attention to the 2007 Texas Unbound Literary Festival at Undermain Theatre July 25th through 29th.
Barnes & Noble, Discover Great New Writers Award    (03/27/07)
Congratulations are in order to WordSpace President Ben Fountain, for his First Place in Fiction award from Barnes & Noble's Discover Great New Writers competition. Since 1990, a group of Barnes & Noble booksellers has met seasonally to select the best forthcoming new work by debuting and underappreciated writers. These exceptional books are chosen solely on the basis of literary merit. Then each spring, a group of distinguished literary jurists name two outstanding writers (one each in fiction and nonfiction) from the previous year's Discover picks for a career-changing prize -- the Discover Award. Congratulations to Ben Fountain for this outstanding accomplishment.
Special Award, Sept 2006
Dallas-Fort Worth Theater Critics Forum Special Award was given to the WordSpace Texas Unbound Festival and its late founding director, Robert Trammell, for providing a venue for staged readings of new plays by local playwrights.

WordSpace has been awarded a grant by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs for 2007.

A beloved Texas poet whose ancestors helped establish the earliest frontier settlements in East Texas, Robert was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Southern Methodist University.
